I was in the throws of designing and knitting a wrap for my MIL for Christmas this round……. I had half planned to tie it in with something from the projects list………
On a trip to my son in London I took the bag with the project in with me. When I returned home I realised that I did not have the bag with me – so I asked my son to look for it in his flat. He swore blind that he did not have it. I assumed that it was a case of it did not leap up and bite him so he could not find it.
Ah, how I wish that had been right!
On visiting this weekend I discovered that it was, indeed, nowhere in the flat. In the end we have worked out what has happened. You may wish to sit down at this point………..
I had parked near the large dumpsters that all that row of flats have to put their rubbish into because for once there was a free parking space. I carried all the washing down to the car along with my handbag, a carrier full of plastic bottles for recycling……… and the knitting bag. I must have put the knitting bag down when I put the rest into the boot of the car. We then drove off to take son to a friend’s flat and, of course, I drove home from teh friend’s flat and son went home to his flat on the tube. It was dark when he got home and he just went up to the flat.
The next day the bin men (refuse collectors) came and being helpful they must have picked up my knitting bag thinking it had fallen out of the dumpster – and my lovely yarn, MIL’s Christmas gift and the needles – along with my Oyster card – have all been taken away, crushed up and put into landfill.
Pass me the hankies please
